Spirits
Death is the road to awe
Death is the road to awe
Spirits resemble normal humans with one large difference. They have the ability to separate their souls from their corporeal bodies and traverse the planes, both mortal and spirit, without the shackles of physicality. This can come either from years of intense study or be a natural inborn trait due to having had a Spirit parent or ancestor. Some Spirits do not even realize they are such, as their planes walking happens during sleep or daydreaming. Others are more aware, deliberately stripping themselves free of their bodies to explore. Upon death, Spirits can choose whether or not to linger in a ghostly form or pass on to the great beyond. Sometimes this happens forcibly, as trauma anchors them to the mortal plane, while other times they linger due to sheer will. Spirits tend to fulfill the role of explorers, historians, scientists and other such occupations.

Energy siphon: Those who are young or lack the knowledge to reincarnate, may draw on energy from their surroundings to help them incarnate them for short amounts of time. They can draw upon the power created by rain and thunderstorms, or seek out naturally ocurring places of power, such as converging ley lines. The period of time their form remains tangible varies upon how much energy they have to use. A light spring shower will not provide as much time as a full-blown storm, etc.
Planes walking: While incorporeal, Spirits may walk freely between the realm of mortals and the realm of the dead. This allows them to gain information that may be unattainable to other races, as well as travel great distances with ease. They are also able to commune with the dead stuck in the Spirit realm, waiting to pass on.
Reincarnation: Spirits with sufficient knowledge and willpower can solidify themselves into a tangible form, negating their reliance on their original vessel. This new body will age like a normal human's, during which they can experience another lifetime, and upon death, decide whether or not to continue the cycle.
Rest and Travel: Unless they have Reincarnated, Spirits must return to their burial site for at least eight hours of rest per day. Should they spend an extended period of time away from where they are entombed, they will start to weaken and fade. To delay this effect, the Spirit may choose to carry a vial of grave dirt with them to increase their time limit. This method can be unreliable and dangerous however, as one is never sure when their time is about to run out.
